In 2008 the company VARIANT S.A. has commenced with the erection of a process line in Trzebinia whose task will be the re-refining of used oils.
Re-refining is a process through which base oils are recovered from used synthetic and mineral oils, thus it is a process of recycling used oils with the use of refining processes.
The final product will be a high quality base oil possessing viscosity parameters much above those of base oils obtained in standard crude oil refining processes.
The technology applied allows for the recovery of about 0,8 tons of base oil from 1 ton of used oil. Waste materials generated in the re-refining process will be used to produce water vapour necessary for the technological process itself and for heating of the facility, while non-usable wastes will be disposed of.

It is noteworthy to stress out the fact that the statute regulating duties concerning waste management and product fees obliges companies producing or importing products detrimental to the environment (including oils) to recycle and foresees product fees for not acting accordingly.
